TRAVEL by Air
Flights to Bhutan are available from Singapore, Bangkok, Delhi, Kolkata, Bagdogra, Bodh Gaya, Dhaka, Kathmandu and Mumbai.
Paro is situated at a height of 2,225 m (7300 ft) above sea level and is surrounded by mountains as high as 4,876 m (16,000 ft).
Bhutan Airlines and Drukair are the two airlines that currently fly there.
Yonphula in the east, Bumthang in the middle, and Gelephu in the south-central part of the country all have domestic airports.
Flying into Bhutan’s Paro International Aiport is typically an exciting experience as the descent into Paro valley brings you closer to the mountain tops than most other flights in the world.
One of the most thrilling flights is between Paro and Kathmandu since the plane goes over four of the world’s five highest mountains.
In good weather, you may take in the breathtaking vista of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Kangchenjunga as you soar higher up.
TRAVEL by Land
International tourists can cross the land border at the towns of :
Phuntsholing in the southwest of Bhutan.
Phuntsholing lies approximately 170 km east of the Indian national airport Bagdogra and nearby Darjeeling. From here begins a mountain journey of almost unbelievable beauty. The road leads from the northern Indian tea plantations through endless turns, hair-pin bends and daring stretches carved into the mountain rock via Chhuka to Thimphu. The travel time for the 176 km stretch can be more than 6 hours.
Samdrupjongkhar in the southeast.
Samdrup Jongkhar is in southeast, 110 km from Guwahati, India, which is nearest to the Guwahati Airport. From Guwahati, you may fly into other Indian cities like Delhi, Bombay or Kolkotta and to your onward flight connections. This exit is more convenient if the travelers do not wish to travel back the same lateral route to Paro for the flights and who would like to combine Assam trips with Bhutan.
*Please Note : A combination of overland and air travel is also possible. All overland travel requires an Indian visa.
